Skincare Essentials: In The Tropics

Hello and happy Friday!

Only a few more days left on our Key West trip and it’s been one of the greatest trips I’ve ever experienced (blogs coming soon, I promise!). But there was one thing that I was for sure leaving with after this trip, and that was the perfect tan.

Mind you, I am literally prone to burning every trip (and then pealing) no matter where we go. I was the tanner with the mindset of burns turn into tans. No way was this mindset at all healthy, so I promised myself that this time was going to be different. Safe to say, I haven’t burnt once and my tan couldn’t be better! The real secret: It’s all about product – and I’m going to show you the stuff I packed that gave me the tan I wanted without truly damaging my skin.

For this trip I picked up Hawaiian Tropic’s Sheer Touch Lotion Sunscreen in SPF 30 and SPF 15. Every place is different, so I recommend experimenting with your sunscreens – since I tan easier, I used 15 on the first day to see how my skin would react to the sun, and my boyfriend tried the 30 (he’s more prone to burning than I am) – after experimenting with the stronger sunscreen, work your way down.
Assuming that I’d take to the sun well I had also packed Hawaiian Tropic’s Tanning Lotion Sunscreen with SPF 4. Although the brand also offers tanning oils, I personally find that the lotions are the way to go. Lotion is meant to moisturize, which helps against burning, where as oils always made me feel like i was sitting in a frying pan and was always burnt afterwords.

This is the most important part as far as your body: treat your skin to some After Sun moisturizer. I also get this product from Hawaiian Tropic which contains shea and cocoa butters plus aloe vera to protect your skin from burning and pealing. I apply this every night after a day in the sun or when my skin starts to feel dry.

I packed Hawaiian Tropic’s Weightless Face Lotion Sunscreen with SPF 30. It’s incredibly lightweight and rubs in easily so there’s no worry about having a white face or having it run into your eyes.
Ok, this is where I get a little routine. Even after the sunscreen and after sun lotion I continue to treat my skin. I have 2 different steps for 2 different occasions:

In the morning before starting the day I put on Estee Lauder’s DayWear Advanced Protection Cream with SPF 15. This is what I use for my face sunscreen, although after a good day of sun I’ll switch to the SPF 30 face sunscreen to prevent any burning.
At night after a long day in the sun I use Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Complex. I put this over my entire face, rubbing it in well. This product gives my skin a nice glowing look, plus it repairs my skin while I’m sleeping, easily turning any burns or redness into a nice even tan.
